High Performance Driving Education

posted Jul 12, 2017, 7:07 PM by John Brenton   [ updated Jul 14, 2017, 12:20 PM ]
If you are looking to improve your driving skills and get the most of your Miata MX-5 consider high performance driving education.
Recently, several of our club members attended a day-long "Introduction to Performance Driving" program led by Pinnacle Advanced Driving Academy who operate at the Toronto Motorsports Park at Cayuga.  They provide excellent introductory and advanced-level instruction that is a combination of performance driving theory in the classroom and 1-on-1 time with an instructor in your car.  Throughout the program you are encouraged to improve your driving skills in a safe and controlled environment that challenges your abilities.  At the end of the course you receive an assessment of your driving strengths and areas of improvement from your instructor.

High Performance driving education is about learning to manage your vehicle at it’s performance limits. This includes understanding the physics that apply to a vehicle while driving (braking, steering and accelerating), learning what you and the car are capable of and the techniques in which to maximize a vehicle’s performance.  Instructors coach students in their own car to give them real-time instruction and feedback while students drive on a training course or on the race track.

Two main benefits of high performance driving education are increased situational awareness and increased car control. These are skills that transfer from the track to the street to help you become a better driver.   Whether you drive a stock Miata or have made performance modifications, you will enjoy a safe and enjoyable introduction to performance driving.  You will meet a great team of experienced instructors with a professional attitude and a well-structured approach to helping you sharpen your driving skills.  You also meet fellow drivers who share your passions for performance driving and motorsports.

Fresh from Mazda's Hiroshima Japan factory, the stock MX-5 road cars are delivered to engineering development partner Long Road Racing in Statesville, North Carolina. The transformation includes disassembly of the production car and re-assembly of the race car, including a full roll cage and interior plus more than 250 motorsports-specific parts. Components of the car, including the Mazda SKYACTIV 2.0 liter engine are sealed to ensure even competition and a cost-effective platform.

Sir Sam's Inn GetawayOctober is the perfect month to enjoy the drive along Haliburton backroads for a getaway at Sir Sam's Inn on Eagle Lake.  Recently, members of the Niagara Peninsula Miata Club had a long weekend of relaxation there.  The warmer autumn weather this year added to the rich experience of top-down driving.

The location was highly recommended by all.  They reported that the food and accommodations at Sir Sam's were first class.  The view from the resort was amazing and they vowed to return next year to do it all over again..

MAZDASPEED MIATA Lovers Everywhere....

2004 Mazdaspeed Miata (turbo)

In 2004 and 2005 Mazda built a turbo model known as the MSM  (Mazdaspeed Miata.) There are very few of these cars worldwide and although there are no official numbers available from Mazda, consensus has it that there are only approximately 350 in Canada making it a relatively rare beast.

Michael Topping from the "Miatas of Muskoka" club in Bracebridge has undertaken to build, over time, a data base of these “go karts.”  To help Michael in this rather daunting task, the Niagara Peninsula Miata Club is publishing this information to spread the word to gather data on the Mazdaspeed Miatas.

Any vehicle information and pics would look great on the Facebook page entitled MSMCanada.  Michael has created a Registration form to be used to create the data base.  There is also a website dedicated to the Mazdaspeed Miatas for you to explore. You may be assured that there is no “marketing intent” attached to this neither will any of the information be sold or distributed.

Any effort that can be made to assist in this project is appreciated.  On behalf of the Miatas of Muskoka club and MIchael Topping thank you for your time.
